A young team with a fairly strong entry, a bizarre twist and some hints at backstory in a rather entertaining plot.
In the film, a well-cast, beautifully-played and overly-competitive temptress lures our hapless protagonist to strive to be his best, using vague sexual promises and hollow motivational speech as her leverage. The movie is predominantly a cut-up training montage of hard/sweaty work and flashbacks to show how she could turn out this way - but this sequence flows masterfully between past and future. It helps that the flashbacks are also well-cast and convincingly acted.
The bizarre twist is inspired but poorly finished, the kind of thing that could-have-been. Its character growth is unfortunately not believable, so overall made only just enough sense to appreciate. Definitely an interesting team who I'm sure have plenty more good ideas that will shine in the future, I'd like to see more stuff like this (but better) next year.

This film was maybe a little clumsy with it's storytelling, but had some good acting moments and a delightful plot twist. Sort of. The broken toy shot was sort of just dropped in there, but it did serve to explain the story a little better. Rough around the edges, but cool to watch. 3/5

Sports movie meets rom-com. A nice use of the genre with some really strong characters. The laughs were there but not frequent and the ending could have been thought out a little more. A polte piece, but not a contestant. This could have really benefited from casting a more capable lead male, but a swell performance by the female.
