Ah, Fractured Radius, always a joy and a pleasure! In this year's entry, our protagonist sets out to improve her lot by becoming a professional dancer. She meets all manner of weird and wonderful characters along the way, and keeps her determination to live up to her Irish grandmother's expectations. Thing is.. watch this:

That happens a lot. The lines become very very tired, and the poor sound doesn't do it any favours. The script is sick of itself from the start, and inexplicably lacks the teams trademark line "shit my balls" despite perfectly fitting the flavour of the film. Gains points for a double-team training montage, loses them for bad continuity and a small story.
However, in a determined last stand to win audience votes, the film ends on an out-of-the-blue twist that made the crowd go crrrrazy.

Not sure what happened with Fractured Radius this year, but unfortunately this entry wasn't as strong as some of their previous years. It was a bit of a weird mish mash of a bunch of elements that could have done with some tighter story editing, and I get the sense that maybe the team has a case of 'too many cooks'.
For the most part it was very well shot, but it did have the occasional glaring sound issue. The acting was hammy but amusing, and the twist at the end literally came out of nowhere. It's such a twisty twist of twistiness that you'll never see it coming.
I mostly enjoyed it, but I know this team can do much better.

A girl aspires to be a professional dancer because of her irish grandma. She is belittled, kicked around, but eventually an opportunity arises to study under a great dancing teacher. Unfortunately he also has other intentions for her. She eventually ends up going head to head against his best dancer, but loses out. We later find out that her grandma died a long time ago and that she is a......
The production value was incredibly good. Unfortunately, the story had too many elements in it. But I did think the lead actress did a good job and I love Andy's trademark acting.

Nice little film with a Cinderella connotation. OTT acting by Andrew (but in a good way to portray the character). Was the repetition of the dancers Irish roots references supposed to be setting us up for the final shot ? If it was supposed to be funny each time it was mentioned then I felt it didn't deliver. There was no need to mention her Irish roots so much, would have been great to let the audience make the connection after the 'dead for 500 years' shot instead.
Nice exploitation of the male dancer, some really funny dance scenes from the half naked guy, the audience loved it.
I was disappointed with the end....was kind of a WTF? I really didn't get it. I felt they were trying to cover two genres (ghost story and dance). For a slick team like Fractured Radius I feel they could have finished stronger, with a better ending related to the dancing ....Still, I rated it high with 4 stars as I feel the quality was there and the acting was superb, I really think it has a chance to make city finals though. Good luck to them !

The veterans of the comp had some very uncharacteristic sound issues this year which was quite distracting.
I thought Andy Conlan's over the top character was quite funny and I liked the line "my Irish grandmother. From Ireland" and the fact it was repeated, a lot.
Not really sure about the story, at the end I was wondering WTF but I did get the dance competition etc it was just left field.
Not sure that the even year finalists thing will work out this year but maybe that means you'll win the grand final next year?

This was AMAZING. Some of the best cinematography of the competition, killer performances, excellent pace, style and class. The directors really got the best out of their actors. Every single scene managed to be hilarious and then they top it all off in another level at the end.
This is a sure finalist and my personal favorite so far.

Very surprised with Fractured Radius this year. They usually hand in something which gets through to the finals, and they're entertaining. And let's not forget they won Auckland a few years back, they're old-hands at 48 hours.
But this was pretty weak.
Took me two views to get through it once as it irritated me on almost every level.
There was far too much "laughing at their own joke" going on, and the tack on ending was a real desperate attempt to leave the audience with something other than a cliche sports movie, even though the genre was dance?!
