737 Productions Femme Fatale film delivered on their genre in spades. And despite having younger actors, I think the general quality of this short was pretty good. The plot of this noir tale may have been thin on the ground, but the 'reveals' of the mystery at the end were good enough that I don't want to spoil the short in this review.
All in all, a solid effort by a young team - technical quality in sound and vision weren't great but was also never distracting - a solid 3 from me.
This was a first time team so not bad for a first effort. Some sound issues and not sure about the use of some of the elements but thought the dolly zoom was done well.
Femme fatale (I think) where it was flash back to the titular double cross. Nothing out of the ordinary story or acting wise. I liked some of the reveal elements but a little cliched.
An interesting take on the genre. It's easy to imagine how a film like this might come about, but ultimately I think its premise was overly ambitious for the resources at hand. If I had a whole school as a location, a bunch of teenage actors and an inclination to make a film that was kind-of-serious, I'd take the easy route and make a film about teenagers in a high school! Nobody in their 30's can do that, and it's the kind of place where a femme fatale story could really shine.
Instead Double-Cross is a kind of psuedo Matrix-esque semi action film, which doesn't carry. Props to the writers for including a twist, but it probably isn't clear enough for most people to follow what's happened. I hope these guys enter again next year, they're clearly willing to challenge themselves.
One thing - the dolly zoom in this film is amazing. Well done guys and see you in 2011.
A solid effort here from a young team, capturing the classic noir elements of femme fatale well. In the film, a mysterious young woman puts together a crack team of corrupt cops and hackers to break into some place and get some files. Generally fairly serious, the film contains some lighter moments through the actors playing roles they are far too young for. I wish the title was different, as the movie really hangs on a twist that I wouldn’t have seen coming if it wasn’t called “Double Crossed”. I have no doubt this team will keep getting better if they keep coming back.
Not a bad film - a great twist at the end and an interesting storyline, also some nice camerawork. Not overly slick looking. Decent effort from this team.
Overall not a bad short. Seemed to have a few technical issues but I'm sure this team will only improve! Look forward to seeing your future work
This is a fair effort by a teen team. However, the sound was lacking, the acting is wooden and the story is a little muddled. Needed more music, costume changes and variation of shot. Perhaps though you prioritised filming technique over making a coherent plot. =)
